Alumnus Bas van Horne in the running for best thesis award

On 1 November, the best HBO thesis in the field of transport and mobility is awarded at the pre-conference of the Nationaal Verkeerskundecongres. The jury has assessed the entries and the nominees are known of which Built Environment alumnus Bas van Horne!

Bas wrote his thesis about 'The mobility transition in the streetscape'. The jury cited the comprehensibility, use of good visual materials and its relevance as strong points.

This year, the jury consists of Rob Smit, Jan Ploeger, Peter van der Mede, Bastiaan Pigge, Jacob de Vries and jury chairman Hans Jeekel. The jury has read and assessed all 15 entries. The theses stand out in their thoroughness, but the jury makes a call to HBO students and their lecturers not to lose sight of the practical applicability of theses.

The other nominees are:

  • Dorien van Damme with 'The e-step: a blessing or a curse?'. Dorien conducted research into the traffic (in)safety of electric scooters in Antwerp.
  • Gaetano Budding wrote '30 km/h in Amersfoort'. A study on the effects and measures to scale down neighbourhood access roads with a speed limit of 50 km/h to area access roads with a speed limit of 30 km/h.
